Frequently Asked Questions
None of us started as firefighters or EMTs either – and except for a small number of our EMTs who are career professionals, we all hold other jobs or household responsibilities while volunteering as professional firefighters and emergency medical professionals.
Whether you’re fresh out of high school, a CEO, a farmer, a salesperson, a line cook, a business owner, retiree, or a stay at home parent – we welcome you to continue those endeavors and join us as a firefighter or EMT. We’ll take you through training and continuing education.
Some of our current and former members are also career professional firefighters and paramedics at other agencies. Volunteering with us can be a great way to start yourself on a fire service career path if that interests you.
We offer CPR classes throughout the year for everyone who is roughly middle-school age and up… whether you want to learn or recertify because you are a daycare provider, teacher, babysitter, or just a caring neighbor and family member who wants to be prepared, we’ll teach you.
Follow us on Facebook or send us a message to Hello@LexingtonFD.com to let us know your interest.
Yes. If our bay doors are up, feel free to stop by and introduce yourself. If you’d like to schedule a station tour for a group, please send a message to Hello@LexingtonFD.com
Quite likely! From escorting champion sports teams and celebrating graduation, to sending off future hometown heroes and welcoming them home, we would be honored to make some noise and show our support.
Please schedule with us in advance so our volunteer members can plan ahead. Reach out to us at Hello@LexingtonFD.com to tell us about the occaision and schedule.
Our fire department is primarily funded by property tax revenue and EMS service billing, but that money is generally tied up paying for the station, our apparatus, and personnel (we’re a combination volunteer/career department).
And YES – We do have a bona fide non-profit adjunct association that absolutely will accept your donation. The Lexington Fire and EMS Association‘s purpose is to be a not-for-profit wholly charitable, civic, and educational organization; to aid and assist in assuring adequate fire, rescue, and emergency medical services for the Lexington community and its neighbors; to encourage adequate training in firefighting and emergency medical services; to provide information, materials, and education regarding fire and rescue prevention and general medical well-being; and to foster a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among the Lexington area firefighters, emergency medical professionals, and their supporters.
The Association has funded items such as AEDs for the community, a CPR machine, grain bin rescue gear, CPR classes, college scholarships, and training props.
Donations are appreciated and may be dropped off or mailed to the fire station, ATTN: Lexington Fire and EMS Association. For other information or questions, please contact Association@LexingtonFD.com to speak with an Association Officer.
